Shopping in Tashkent

For the avid shopper, Tashkent has a couple of big bazaars and also a large number of small ones to offer. Tourists can feast their senses on all the vivid colours and exotic odours and soak in the Asian atmosphere. The bazaars tend to be noisy and crowded as they sell everything from vegetables, fruit and meat to beer, alcoholic beverages, clothes, shoes and carpets. They may also be a little bewildering to the first time visitor, so take some time to browse through and find what you are looking for. Bargaining over prices is mandatory. Since each locality has its own mini-bazaar, it might be easier to shop in your neighbourhood.

Chorsu Bazaar

Chorsu Bazaar is a huge marketplace located in the old city, near ancient madrassahs and mosques. It is probably the busiest place in town, with thousands of people selling, buying and just watching daily.

The marketplace is a vast territory, extensively used by locals to buy virtually everything one may need. The blue Dome is the place where all kinds of nuts, dried fruits, milk products, honey, rice etc. are sold. This is a great place to see how 'oriental' Tashkent can be a great experience for a traveller wishing to taste Tashkent from inside.
